M978 Tanker Maintenance Instructions (Cont)

Before entering tank, be certain to
read and follow all safety
precautions in FM 10-71. Liquids
and vapors carried in the M978
tanker are flammable and may
cause injury or death.

No smoking, flame, sparks, or hot or
glowing objects within 50 ft (15 m) of
vehicle.
a. Removal.
(1)
Remove four nuts (1), screws (2), and
coupling halves (3) from two coupling
gaskets (4) and (5).
(2)
Hold V21 check valve (6) in place and push
coupling gasket (4) onto lower pipe (7).
(3)
Hold V21 check valve (6) in place and
push coupling gasket (5) onto upper
pipe.
(4)
Remove V21 check valve (6) from two
pipes (7) and (8).
(5)
Remove nut (9) and screw (10) from
bracket (11) and remove pipe (7).
(6)
Remove two coupling gaskets (4)
and (5).
