11-20. PARKING BRAKE VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (CONT).
a. Removal.
NOTE
There are two types of parking brake
valves installed on vehicles. Model A is a
manually set valve (black knob). Model B
is an automatic set valve (yellow knob).
When installing model B type parking
brake valve (yellow knob), on Non-FHTV
vehicles, washer (5) must be installed with
parking brake valve. Tag and mark air
lines before removal.

Remove pin (1) and knob (2).
(2)
Remove nut (3), parking brake valve
(4), and washer (5) (if installed) from
dash (6).
(3)
Remove four air lines (7, 8, 9, and 10).
(4)
Mark location and remove three elbows
(11) from parking brake valve (4).
(5)
Remove fitting (12) from fitting (13).
(6)
Remove tee (13) from parking brake valve (4).
b. Installation
WARNING
Adhesives, solvents, and sealing compounds can burn
easily, can give off harmful vapors, and are harmful to
skin and clothing. To avoid injury or death, keep away
from open fire and use in well-ventilated area. If
adhesive, solvent, or sealing compound gets on skin or
clothing, wash immediately with soap and water.

Apply pipe thread sealing compound to threads
of two fittings (1 and 2) and three elbows (3).
(2)
Install fitting (1) on parking brake valve (4).
(3)
Install fitting (2) and three elbows (3).
(4)
Connect four air lines (5, 6, 7, and 8).
(5)
Install parking brake valve and
washer (9) (if removed) through dash (10).
(6)
Install nut (11) on parking brake valve (4).
(7)
Install knob (12) on parking brake valve (4).
(8)
Install pin (13) through knob (12).
c. Follow-on Maintenance.
(1)
Install instrument panel (para 7-19).
(2)
Start engine and build up air pressure to
120-125 psi (827-862 kPa) (TM 9-2320-279-10).
(3)
Check operation of parking brake (TM 9-2320-279-10).
(4)
Shut off engine (TM 9-2320-279-10).
