[13-35. FIFTH WHEEL REPAIR

(5) Wedge plunger (12) in
(6) Remove screw (13), two
washers (14), nut (15),
release lever (16), and
release handle (17).
Spring and plunger are under
tension. Release slowly to
prevent personal injury.
(7) Remove plunger (12) and

locknut (22) from plate (3).

from each side of plate (3).
Adhesives, solvents, and sealing compounds can burn easily, can give off harmful
vapors, and are harmful to skin and clothing. To avoid injury or death, keep away
from open fire and use in well-ventilated area. If adhesive, solvent, or sealing
compound gets on skin or clothing, wash immediately with soap and water.
Clean all metal parts with dry cleaning solvent.
Remove corrosion from bare metal.
Inspect top of plate for cracks or distortion.
Inspect lockpin holes in plate, New pins must fit tightly. Replace plate if new pins are not tight.
Inspect all parts for damage.
Replace all damaged parts.
